Misconceptions Of Positive Thinking, Make It Work You
Much has been said and many books written about the power of positive thinking. So why, when so many advocate this mental discipline, does it seem to so often yield such poor results?
Positive thinking does not yield poor results is the answer, those who are not getting just fantastic results merely have not yet mastered the technique. A Boeing 747 jumbo jet will not fly in the hands of an untrained pilot. Nothing wrong with the engineering, nothing wrong with the potential pilot, simply a little more training is required. The same is true for here. The ability to think in a positive way can be our greatest gift and our greatest asset when understood.
To understand this phenomenon better lets first look at what it is not. It is not senselessly thinking good when all evidence is to the contrary. No, this would not be the best plan. This is our first mistake, reality must be acknowledged and dealt with. To think positively in a poor situation would be to hold fast to the end vision, realize that failure is a part of the success formula, look for the mistakes made and the lessons to be learned, then continue with the plan unperturbed by this temporary set back. This is correct, this is a good way to think. If we can consistently think in this way life will very quickly improve.
Another example of this would be with relationships. If we have a poor relationship of whatever kind, positive thinking is not to think good thoughts about an obviously bad situation. Our thoughts here should be to hope for the best for all parties involved and again look for solutions to correct the situation, not reasons as to why the breakdown has occurred.
The big key here as with so many other areas of personal improvement, is consistent action and forward progress. No system is going to work without massive action on behalf of the individual. This really is the problem, too many are looking for methods of “Get (fill in the blank) Quick” and it simply does not exist. Any thought, either positive or negative is useless unless backed by action.
Think positively, act positively and receive gratefully, this is the formula. Follow this and success will quickly follow.
Lastly, remember it is ourselves we are aiming to change, not others. Seek to become more patient and more tolerant, work on yourself.
