Here are 5 ways to generate income from your website or blog.

As I have talked about in a number of articles, generating passive income is a must if you want to enjoy a higher quality if life. So having said that, here are 5 ways to generate income from your website or blog.

Contextual Advertising

This is a great addition to any website or blog (as long as you don’t over do it). Google Adsense is by far the best known and probably the most successful program. The way this works is that Google crawl the content of you page, then place ads relevant to your content. You then get paid for every time an ad is clicked upon. I have found Google to be great at sending relevant ads as long as you take the time to include enough keywords and hooks for Google to know what the page is about. There are stories of webmasters making $1 million plus per year purely from adsense. This may or may not be true but you can certainly generate a realistic income from Google.

Affiliate Programs

Sell products for large companies and get paid commission for each sale. Amazon.com is probably the best known affiliate program but it is quite easy to find a program that compliments your blog. Affiliate programs are great because they are fully automated. Once you have taken the time to set your affiliate program up it then runs on auto pilot. If you wish to affiliate market then it is very important that you attract targeted traffic to you blog. You must attract people who have an interest in what you are selling!

Write an ebook

This is great, write a book on the topic of your blog and sell it to your visitors. Much better than affiliate marketing because you keep all the money! You also have the option of staring your own affiliate program and have others sell your book for you. This is very easy to set up through websites like clickbank.com who will handle payment and distribution. Again, once set up, it is fully automated.

Donation

If you are providing great content why not include a donation button to your site or blog. Again this is easy to do through paypal or a similar company.

Referrals

Depending on the topic of your website you may be able to get paid for referrals. This works well with financial sites and real estate sites etc. Companies will pay you for traffic you send to their sites!

Personally I like adsense as the major source of income for this site, although I do use affiliates and I am selling my own ebook. The more sources of income that you can naturally include the better. The key here is though, “naturally” include. If you over do it and your site becomes to commercial you will turn your visitors off and your income will decrease.
