Website Update (16th Oct 2008)

So here we are 3 months into the website and after a whole summer of work I have something that I am really quite happy with. It’s been a little bit of a steep learning curve as prior to this I have had no website or technical experience whatsoever, it’s been a very interesting journey so far.

My goal here in starting out was to create a high traffic website with a bunch of great resources and make it interactive for the visitors. So far so good. I have around 200 pages of content now which as of today (Oct 16th 2008) Google has picked up and indexed 166 pages, my goal here is to have 500 or more pages of good quality content built and indexed by Christmas (you can help by leaving comments).

I have had to learn a lot about the internet and search engines in doing this and if anybody would like any help on getting their sites indexed and seen at Google, Ask.com, MSN live and Yahoo, let me know and I’ll do an article on it. It can be a bit tricky if you don’t know how to go about it!

On the interactive side of thing I have added the comment boxes to a number of pages, this is OK but ultimately I would like to add a full forum feature to the site. I’m not sure that I have the traffic just yet to support this. I think when I consistently have a 1000 visitors a day I will seriously consider this as there are some expense involved.

Traffic wise I am now getting around 100 or so visits per day which is quite good for the age of the site. My goal ultimately is to be in the 10 000 plus visits per day range, so spread the word!

Financially the site is supported primarily through the advertising. There is some expense involved in running a site of this size both financially and in terms of time, it does require a lot of resources.
